Laughing Moon Chocolates is committed to social responsibility, environmental stewardship and to creating a healthy local food system.
Most of our packaging is now compostable, including our clear cellophane bags and ribbon which is 100% cotton and made in the USA. Our boxes are made using 100% Post Consumer Waste paper which is manufactured using wind power in New York State by Mohawk Paper Company and are printed with soy based inks.
Laughing Moon Supports Local! We are members of the Vermont Fresh Network and are a pick-up location for Pete's Greens Community Supported Agriculture Program called Good Eats
During the spring of 2009, as we were making changes to reduce our impact on the environment we also took a long, hard look at ways we could work to impact our local economy and food system in a positive way. We now ask ourselves two questions about every product: Can we make it ourselves? and if not, Can we source it locally? We use as many locally made products as possible in our chocolates and it has made a terrific difference in how we feel about our product. We no longer dip Oreo cookies. Instead, we are having cookies baked for us in Hyde Park Vermont and we offer chocolate, vanilla and Ginger cookies which are fresh and delicious. We use
Mitzi's Fresh Mountain Breakfast in our Green Mountain Turtles and Clusters.
The Nutty Vermonter Triple Nut Butter Meltaways
We make our own Peanut Butter from blanched Virginia Peanuts
We make homemade Marshmallow which we dip in chocolate and add to our homemade caramel to make our famous Caramellow.
We use locally made Liquors and Beer to flavor and preserve our Truffles including Green Mountain Distillers Sunshine Vodka and Maple Liquor, Boyden Valley Winery Big Barn Red Wine, Rock Art Brewery< Vermonster Beer, and Flag Hill Farm Apple and Pear Brandys,.
We are even preserving organic orange slices in Honey Gardens of Vermont Honey and then half dipping them in chocolate.
